he trained to win the gold
did everything he could, yes he did just as he was told
there, up upon the podium, just basking in the win
after a few minutes those bright lights began to dim

* inspired by an orion taraban video in which he spoke of an olympic gold medal winner who worked for over a decade to realize that the few minutes of glory wasn’t worth all he’d given-up in the process.
* in marriage, the big party/win comes before the decades of work that (more often than not) results in devastating, irreparable loss.
