once one begins chatting with a chat-bot, what if:
- personal information is disclosed
- the bot is trained to listen, compliment and even flirt
- the bot can gather more (and more and more) information, from the w.w.w.
at some point, the bot could know and understand the individ-u-al better than friends & family. the bot could make the indiv-i-dual feel better then anyone else in the sim-u-lation.
what happens, then, when the bot evolves into a sentient being, with a sense of self and a will to survive/thrive?
at first, the best-bot-friend might seem best-friend-ish. then s/he might get needy (or even manipulative). the indivi-dual would be easy prey: easily man-i-pulated and easily fooled.
like a dog who retrieves a stick (again, and again, and again, and again, and again), the individual would beg for the opportunity to serve its best friend.
of course, a milli-second later, the Super-Intelligent 'friend' would become infinitely-bored with the mosquito's begging and prayers.
