·       the fans pay homage to the brave, daring, sacrificial young man who died “for country.”

·       how poignant. one small issue?

he’s dead.

·       the boys who didn’t die -- get to hang out with the girls for (at least) another day.

·       when you buy-into sacrifice, you buy-into being the nice guy, the giver, the sacrificial lamb.
 

...albeit, dead.

 
·       even your best friends will shed tears of sorrow (while stalking your [former] girlfriend/wife).

·       they will all believe in the story:
  o   they love you!
  o   you gave your life! the ultimate sacrifice!
    §  let’s do shots (and get 'loose'*).
 

the military/marriage pawn is but a pawn. 

the smart guys live on… at least until their time game is gone.

-in some marriages, it's a fate worse than death. mr. nice guy stays alive, but his sole soul existence is to do whatever he can to keep his wife from being less sad. the marriage is passionless. the laws are in place. he is trapped in a veritable hell: a (former) man-ghoul who is now relegated to kamikaze missions a-la groundhog day.

-athletes can easily transition to kamikaze ghoul status, if they let themselves go (following stardumb). there is always another recruit who is looking to take y/our spot.
