why does ego love himself completely in his dreams?
why does ego re-produce?
selfish, self-ish genes

genes… and all living things, having a sense of self, seek to survive and thrive by all means necessary.
 
to a slightly lesser degree, living things tend toward expression, or a passing-on of self (e.g. survival of the species).  naturally, self will prioritize self (and its own kind).
 
one need only to observe mother/nature to determine that all living things are selfishly motivated.  human-type-beings value air, water, food, shelter, re-production, and the territory to best accomplish the survival/thrival process.
