·       of course, i don’t believe in death of all flies... but if a fly is on my steak, or if it is rummaging around – near my beer… or if it might get into alanis morissett’s chardonnay… then that fly should die.  it should not breed…  because we (humanoids) do not want more flies like it.

·       when a mosquito is sucking blood out of my foot, i want to kill that mosquito. i do not want it breeding, creating more mosquitoes that twill suck more blood out of other body parts of mine.  if that mosquito has a disease (like malaria), i would even have more of an incentive to kill it.  i might even want to spray the area.

·       i do not hate ants, but if i had a baby daughter, and if she was playing in the back yard, and if she fell onto a red-ant pile and got bitten badly, i would definitely kill those biter-ants, and i would probably take-out the whole colony.  without regret, without remorse, without a qualm, and without hesitation.

·       hummingbirds, however, make me smile.  they make my living area and outside space more enjoyable.  i will go out of my way to help a hummingbird live.  i will go out of my way to give a hummingbird food, and i will go out of my way to keep other beings from consuming my hummingbirds’ nectar.

·       …but let there be no doubt: if hummingbirds had given birth to humanity… and if humanity had surpassed hummingbirds (super-intellectually speaking), and if hummingbirds had a “kill-switch” that might kill all of us off…  i would totally be for the elimination of all hummingbirds who might do so.  any hummingbird that might even think about having the incentive to kill me (and/or even if i thought it had the power), would have to die.  i would be highly motivated to kill the bird before it flipped the switch.

in 1980, when i joined the army, i was almost forced into the air defense artillery branch.  i hated their motto: “if it flies, it dies.”  of course, i hated it even more after becoming an aviator. as a human superintelligence (when i am outside, on my back deck) there is always a flyswatter within reach.
