both (within a trap of living life [so day-by-day])
both (without a means to stop from going off the rails)

·       those on the last-car-caboose are unaware of the impending intelligence train-wreck.

·       those in the second-to-the-last-car-caboose are aware, yet still trapped.  they watch the slow-motional train-wreck as it is happening, “in-progress.”
