emfh, or "every man for himself" occurs when the going gets tough. there's a fine line between helping a neighbor (or friend) and defending the nest.
as i observe the neighborhood helpfulness (post hurricane helene), i've also noticed that, when a person's home is in imminent danger, it's emfh.
