b118 (1.19-1.2024): who, then is my god?

who, then is my god? [i]
by wo r. ship

who, then is my god, is it a person, place or thing?
who, then is my god? it is (what i am worshipping)
who/what do i worship? (the answer isn’t hard)
who/what do i worship?
who, then is my god?

·       worship: adoration, as in a deity.

·       people tend to worship a variety of things: money, sports teams, foods, alcohol, sex, approval, status, attention, other people (celebrities, political candidates, dictators, cult leaders), etc., etc.

this exercise (asking myself who i worship) was fruitful.  two immediate indicators of who/what we value is (1) how do i spend my time? and (2) on what do i spend my $$$?

at present, i don’t seem to worship anything.  my spending/time tendencies are:
·       work/school
·       writing/expressing
·       friends/family/fun
·       fsu football/baseball
·       my possessions (house, cars, massage chair, etc.)
·       clean food
·       alcohol is no longer an “attachment/addiction.”  i may have just dodged a bullet on that one.

women (of course)... have always been a tendency (but not worship).

·       coffee?  habit, maybe a present tendency... but not worship.
·       chess, against the computer
·       hummingbirds
·       successes (in life, at work, with women, as a man)
·       life?  in the face of death?  hmmmmmmmmmm… this would be interesting... if faced with a terminal situation.  hmmmmmmmmm...
·       wellness
·       recognition, approval (not really), being liked?
·       time, autonomy & freedom probably top my “values” list.

adventures?

i can like/enjoy people and things without being obsessed with them.  this process has been wonderfully enlightening.  it appears as if i do not have a “god” …and that i do not want to be treated with adoration/worship, either.  i can live and let live.
