minus the 'fly' reference, this top gun line (recited by goose) refers to the scripted, military recital that is bestowed upon next of kin (by a 'notification officer') in the event of a service-member's death on active duty.
i used the quote, today, after a couple of flies gave their lives in the call of duty, on my back deck. of course, they might have just been bored (or [more likely] hungry), but they did, in fact, die.
*yes, during my military career, i was tasked to play the role of the notification officer... and a survival assistance officer. both were not my idea of a good time.
