he’s a lonely king

up there on his throne

now that all the knights and bishops (even castles) gone

now he watches as his pawn becomes another queen

now he cries (he says goodbye) as queen mates other king

·        in chess, the queen of one side can often be intimately involved in the mate of the opponent’s king.

·        how, in any universe, can that be thought of as a win?
