the truth about altruistic is that, since
all living things seek survival/thrival, then every living act is (in and of
itself) self-centered (e.g. beneficial to self) …even the act of caring for
another!
once it becomes obvious that a “mother teresa” (for example) gets her jollies from sacrifice, the idea of “giving until it hurts” makes sense from both the giver and receiver perspective.
hence: a living being can “give” us food, clothing, shelter and the territory for more… but that living thing will (somehow) benefit from its giving.
when one shows (statistically) how the most wealthy are also the most philanthropic, one must also admit that the most wealthy benefit from their own philanthropy.
while politicians appear to throw us a few bones (and paper towels), they are the ones who are laughing all the way to the power-bank.
